Learn their patterns of travel throughout your home
Mice are active at nighttime, but you can see where they have been by noticing their droppings. Little black pellets.

They move along walls, avoid open areas, and they will gnaw away at your drywall, paper towels and similar material. Look for holes about the size of a dime. If you see some food piled up, like bird seed, or pet food behind furniture, that is a sign. They build nests out of paper towels, newspaper, so if you see shredded material near a heat source, that could be a nest.

Get some good traps
The good old snap trap is an effective trap, get a good one, and we sell them at our store. There are also effective capture traps, some have indicators that let you know when you have a capture, and many are disposable, so you never have to see the mice your capture. You can also use live mouse traps if you prefer to release the critters unharmed. They are also effective. After an infestation has been eradicated, you may be able to use an ultrasound deterrent. In some cases, these deterrents keep rodents away.

Get a good bait
Mice like peanut butter, chocolate, and other high caloric foods. They love pet food too. A look idea is to use whatever you noticed them feeding on in your house.

Have a good setup
Setup your traps at 90 degrees to the walls along which you have noticed mice travel. Setup every 3 or 4 feet.
Make sure you are wearing gloves to keep your scent off the trap. Try to place some traps in enclosed spaces like a kitchen cabinet, or drawer. Try in and around your oven too, mice love to get in and around your oven, the drawer under the broiler is a favorite place for mice.
