Autumn Is Here… So Are Mice & Cockroaches

Here Are 10 Steps You Can Take To Inhibit Mice & Roaches

Cockroaches are moving indoors in the fall when the weather gets cooler. Cockroaches are in search of food, water, and warmth. A good way to stop a roach problem in your home is with a proactive roach control plan.

1. Start by eliminating food sources and get rid of hiding places by de-cluttering closets, and in the kitchen, by clearing out the cupboards of open or expired food products.
2. Store leftover food and dog food in well-sealed storage containers.
3. Take out the trash daily, because roaches are attracted to household waste, like coffee grounds.
4. If you can seal or correct any gaps, cracks, or crevices that roaches can use to gain access into your home, this will help prevent a rush of roaches from entering from a nearby nest.

If you’re seeing roaches of different sizes, you may have a roach infestation already. It might be best to resist the urge to use over the over-the-counter sprays because these sprays are not too effective, some are toxic, and most are only on-contact killers that won’t prevent roaches from reproducing. Contact Evans Pest Control for a roach control plan that will include a thorough inspection with regular treatments.

Like other rodents, mice are searching for food and warmth as autumn weather approaches, making your home a great place for mice to be. You can discourage mice from getting in by rodent-proofing.

6. Seal any evident gaps around your home’s exterior and especially around plumbing. It is a good idea to install some metal weather-stripping on doors.
7. One of the attractors we have observed is fall foliage, leaves and vegetation that provides cover for mice to hunker down in around your house.
8. It is best practice to clear out plants, leaves or any other vegetation that may be touching or near your home’s exterior, clean up any yard debris.
9. Clean your outdoor recycle containers, and de-clutter the basement.
10. You can also use glue boards, baits, and traps in the basement area near the basement door and windows, as a proactive approach to rodent control.
